This course covers African industrialization: why the manufacturing model may not work and possible alternatives.

Africa’s working-age population is growing. But without industrialization based in manufacturing, sustainable development may not be achievable in Africa. However, is manufacturing necessary for economic growth and future sustainable development? This course, created with the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) explores options for industrial development that do not necessitate manufacturing and policies that could help African economies grow and develop.
