This course presents the positive and negative impacts information and communications technology (ICT) has and how it can be implemented in an inclusive way.

Tech for Good, developed by UNESCO and Cetic.br/NIC.br, the Brazilian Network Information Center’s Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society, delves into the impact information and communications technology (ICT) has had on the world. On one hand, it provides healthcare, education, banking, and governmental services to billions, but on the other hand, ICT has created problems ranging from privacy violations and mismanagement of data to e-waste and social division.

This course brings together ICT specialists and leaders to discuss the social progress ICT has brought as well as the new challenges it will bring. Tech for Good examines how stakeholders are collaborating to assess the future ICT will create.

Sustainable development practitioners, undergraduate and graduate students interested in information, and communications technology and technology specialists.

Learning Objectives
To understand the effects of ICT and how its negative impacts should be dealt with, how data should be used and managed, the biased nature of technology and the importance of inclusivity, and contextualization in the development and implementation of ICT projects.
